Arglex1 has offered to allow the forum to be moved to his company's server. He is a co-owner of the company, so it's within his decision/rights to allow us on the server (we're not sneaking in).

The only (potential) drawback is that there ftp use will be restricted (no questionable content - i.e., Juarez Software, pr0n, etc.).

Is the community okay with moving the forum to his server?

Would the admin access be similar to a paid host? I.E., would this move complicate the things that you have to do to administer the forum?

If not, sounds cool to me, as long as the performance is good.

That's up to Arglex1. It's his server. It's up to him as to whom he wants to allow access.

However, I can still "Admin"/mod the forum, but have Arglex1 take care of patching and database maintenance. Or he can takeover as supreme admin and appoint whomever he wants to be mods.

Will the baitshop still be free?

Can we still have our flame fests?

Or will the first I hate you all die fags burn in hell thread lead to no more baitshop?

Why would the forum admin rights change?

I'm actually referring to the db/software admin, not the forum moderation...i.e., will Mike be able to get to some sort of "cpanel" on Arglex's machine, or will that side of the maintenance fall to Arglex?

I'd like to see Arglex's post on this matter, describing the offer in greater detail.

What do you want to know?

I have ran a beehive forum on that server before, it got very little usage and was more of an R&D thing for a purpose that never went into production.

If Flak is going to help whiteknave or whatever, they can pm me for all of my contact info.

Will the FTP restriction whiteknave told us about in any way affect what we can post in RA?

RA should be fine as long as the access is controlled. I am willing to leave the gray area in place. The fact is the only person who would see it is me (on the server admin area). Complete control over the IT department is my position for Metropolitan.

I will turn a blind eye, I just don't want to find .iso files and stuff on the ftp. In particular, I don't know who has access to the ftp on top of the fact that I always use sftp. The ftp ports themselves are closed.

My only fear (may be unfounded) is that I used to "demo" games all the time. I am pretty sure the majority of the sites I went to for "demo" games were ftp sites unknown to the owner.

I don't plan on policing it, I simply don't have the time. I would like to trust that the server won't be abused.

What do you mean no pr0n? Only on the FTP, right?

Your campaign promises have addressed all my concerns. You now have my full support.

Who cares about FTP anyway?

Well, actually...

*sigh*

I'm sure we'll get by without it.

Didn't whiteknave prepay for the ultra-reliable justhost account? Perhaps an FTP could be hosted there?
